My favorite subjects growing up were psychology and finance, so it’s no wonder I was drawn to a profession where I am able to combine the two. I had always been fascinated by how people’s upbringing drove their financial decisions as adults — most likely because I come from your typical American working class family where money was always pretty tight — which led me to study Business Administration at Ball State University. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew that I wanted to better myself and find a fulfilling career.
After graduating — in the midst of the 2008- 2009 financial crisis — I struggled to find a job that would pay the bills, especially with those dreaded student loan payments. By chance, I got a job at probably the last place you would expect someone with student debt to work, a student loan collections agency. I worked as a collector for a while until I couldn’t take it any longer and began searching for a career that wouldn’t make me feel so depressed.
My hard work paid off and I landed a job as a bank teller at a regional bank. This is where my love for personal finances really took off. The open and honest conversations I had with everyday-people about their financial ups and downs solidified my passion for serving clients.
I was introduced to the financial planning industry through a close friend who was in the business. He described what he did and I instantly knew it was the right path for me. I worked as a para-planner for a few years before, once again, getting the urge to further my career.
Since 2017, I have been using my skills as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER practitioner to help every-day people build and preserve their wealth.
As a fermenting enthusiast, motorcycle tinkerer, and hobby chef, I am always looking to expand my knowledge and skills. I enjoy volunteering my time in the central Indiana community, especially when I get to work with my hands. You can usually find me planting trees with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Inc., promoting health and wellness as a member of St. Vincent Foundation Professional Advisers, or spreading the word of fee-only financial planning as a Midwest Regional Board Member of NAPFA.
